Police ID Suspect, 16, In Fatal New Rochelle High School Student Stabbing

Police have identified a teenage suspect believed to be the suspect involved in the fatal stabbing of New Rochelle High School junior Valaree Schwab on Wednesday near the school’s campus.

Police announced at a press conference on Thursday morning that they are seeking the public’s assistance in tracking down Z’inah Brown, a 16-year-old female whose last known address was Nepperhan Avenue in Yonkers.

According to police, officers responded to the scene shortly after 12:20 p.m. on Wednesday, where there were reports of a fight involving multiple high school-aged students. During the dispute, Schwab suffered two stab wounds to her torso from a steak knife. She was transported to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, but was pronounced dead there later in the afternoon.

Police said that Brown was among a group of five or six male and females who were involved in the fight.

“Our hearts go out to all who have been touched by this tragic occurrence,” New Rochelle school district officials said in a statement. “This is a devastating loss for our school community, and our deepest condolences go out to Valaree’s family and friends.”
